About Me

Hello! My name is Brandi Finchum. Here is all about me: I am a full-time, Bible believing, wife, mother of a toddler, and High School Math & Computer Science teacher of 9 years and here is why I am choosing to blog:

My Why

Some of my favorite Bible verses are the following:

14 “You are the light of the world. A city situated on a hill cannot be hidden. 15 No one lights a lamp and puts it under a basket, but rather on a lampstand, and it gives light for all who are in the house. 16 In the same way, let your light shine before others, so that they may see your good works and give glory to your Father in heaven.

Matthew 5:14-16

It reminds me of when I was a kid singing “Hide it under a bushel, NO! I’m gonna let it shine!” … I say all of that to say that God has given me a joy filled life and I believe that He is calling me to share that with you so that He can get all of the Glory.

About Me & My Background

Walk

When I was 6 years old, I remember sitting at my grandparents’ supper table one summer evening, and they were talking about church the next day. I remembering asking a lot of questions about who Jesus was and what He did for me. After supper, I went to the back room to be alone and hid.

At that moment, I knew I needed Jesus to save me from my sins. For the Bible says, “Here I am! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears my voice and opens the door, I will come in and eat with that person, and they with me.” My grandmother led me in a prayer to ask for forgiveness and I placed my faith in Jesus Christ that day! From then on, my name is written in the Lambs book of Life!!!! Hallelujah!

School

I graduated magna cum laude from ETSU with an undergraduate degree in mathematics, where I took 70+ credit hours of mathematics alone. Then, I went and graduated from MTSU with my masters degree in mathematics.

While attending those schools, I was introduced to mathematical modeling where programming was a necessity. So, I learned several coding languages and was able to publish several journal articles, which include:

Teaching

Currently, I just finished my 9th year of teaching mathematics and computer science. For math, I have taught Algebra 1, Geometry, Algebra 2, Calculus, Differential Equations, and Linear Algebra. For computer science, I have taught AP® Computer Science Principles & AP® Computer Science A.

Motherhood

For my family life, I have been married to my husband for 9 years now and together we have a son. Being a mom is the hardest job on the planet, but the absolute most rewarding one I will ever have.

My Self-Assessment

Below are some self-assessment stats about how I feel I am doing in each area of my life. I’m giving myself B’s, although it is really hard seeing anything other than A’s. There’s always room improvement!

As you may notice, most of the numbers are close together. When I think about this, I feel like I have found balance in life and that is what I am striving for! Yay!
